Excessive rat in the right subdiaphragmatic region may simulate pathological processes such as subdiaphragmatic abscess, subpulmonic pleural effusion, ascites, tumor, and pneumoperitoneum. This report describes six patients with excessive subdiaphragmatic fat who were examined with plain radiography (all six patients), computed tomography (CT) (three patients), and ultrasound (two patients). Plain radiographs demonstrated an appreciable radiolucency separating the liver and right hemidiaphragm in all cases. It is concluded that CT is the best imaging modality for diagnosing this condition, but it may be recognized confidently on ultrasonographic scans and plain radiographs.
