Peripheral Solitary Pulmonary Nodule: CT Findings in Patients with Pulmonary Emphysema1

Figure 1. Transverse 2-mm-thick CT scan shows benign nodule in 70-year-old man. The nodule, located in the right upper lobe, had spiculation, and the radiologists diagnosed it as malignant. Emphysema surrounded 60% of the nodule.

Figure 2. Transverse 2-mm-thick CT scan shows adenocarcinoma in 64-year-old man. The nodule, located in the right upper lobe, had a well-defined polygonal shape and exhibited no lobulation, spiculation, or air bronchogram; the radiologists classified it as benign. Emphysema surrounded 70% of the nodule.
