Diagnosis Please Certificate of Recognition Awarded Again to Mustafa Kemal Demir, MD

Anthony V. Proto, MD

Index terms: Diagnosis Please

Now in its 7th year in Radiology, Diagnosis Please remains a popular monthly feature for our readers (1). Each month, we continue to receive hundreds of e-mail responses regarding the most likely diagnosis for each of the ongoing cases. The 6th year of Diagnosis Please cases (cases 61–72) was completed in March 2004, and I am delighted to announce that we have identified the individual who submitted the highest number of correct answers: Mustafa Kemal Demir, MD.

Mustafa Kemal Demir, MD

Dr Demir is the second individual who is a repeat winner, having been one of four winners for cases 37–48 (2). The first repeat winner was Sergio Julio Moguillansky, MD, who received a second certificate for cases 25–36 after having been the winner for cases 1–12 as well (3,4).

Dr Demir attended Istanbul University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey. After receiving his MD degree from that university and after a year of general practitioner experience, he pursued training in the Department of Radiology, Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine. He has practiced in Istanbul since then and is currently vice-chief of the Department of Radiology, Haydarpasa Numune, Research and Teaching State Hospital in Istanbul. He is also an associate professor of radiology. Dr Demir has numerous publications to his credit. Although he specializes in neuroradiology and gastrointestinal imaging, his practice spans the gamut of many other subspecialty areas in diagnostic radiology, just as Diagnosis Please cases span the gamut of diagnostic radiology.

Upon my notification to Dr Demir that he was the sole winner of cases 61–72, he responded, "I am both delighted and honored to hear about the results of Diagnosis Please. I believe that this contest is a challenging experience. I have benefited from the contest in terms of analytical evaluation and clinical-radiological correlation. It is also fun to follow the cases and wait for the answers. Curiosity and competition make it attractive and didactic." Again, we extend to Dr Demir our congratulations for his outstanding accomplishments! He will receive a certificate (pictured herein) in recognition of the same.
